—A note from Jessica’s Coach, Austin
I’m so excited to share Jessica’s journey with you. Her story with us began a little over a year ago as she walked through our doors determined to reclaim the life and the body she had before life events caused her to put her health and fitness on hold.
Jessica was open and honest about her feelings about returning to exercise – it was a mental hurdle that had become larger as time passed. But her desire to fall in love with exercise and get back in shape was stronger than the mountain before her.
Jessica was happy to take things slowly and trust in the plan I had created for her. She knew that every time she showed up to train, she was setting an incredible example for her daughter and taking back control of her life… One rep at a time.
Every month, Jessica embraced exercise a little bit more and began hitting major milestones along the way. Now, she seeks opportunities to be active every day, she looks forward to pushing herself during her sessions, and she has transformed a fear of exercise into a love that encourages her to keep making progress every day.
You put in a ton of work to get to where you are today, Jessica, and I feel fortunate to have been a part of this journey with you. Keep saying YES, keep pushing your comfort zone, and keep chasing your dreams!
What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a program?
I met Benjamin at a networking group and he presented on what Lean Strong is all about and I knew it was exactly what I had been looking for.
Health and fitness used to be my life but then I had a baby and my marriage broke up and I felt like I had lost my way and fitness felt overwhelming and scary. Benjamin presented an opportunity to come back to fitness on my terms and in my own way and it felt safe and doable.
I wanted to workout again but truly didn’t know how or where to start and Benjamin and Lean Strong definitely provided a safe place to do so.
What was your life like prior to starting at Lean Strong Fitness?
I was not active at all. I would definitely say I was depressed, unhappy with my body and my life.
I avoided being seen and doing things that required me to be in public because I was ashamed of where I was and didn’t want to run into people I knew.
What were your most important goals when you started? Why were these important to you?
My #1 goal was to learn to like working out again.
Prior to having my daughter, fitness was an integral part of my life and then I gained a crazy amount of weight in pregnancy and a lot of it stuck around and I didn’t know how to get rid of it because I felt like it was something outside of me…pregnancy was hard and my body changed so much it didn’t feel like I had control anymore or like I had the ability to get back to where I once was.
Working out felt foreign and scary since it had been almost 4 years since I had worked out regularly. I wanted to WANT to be active, to want to move my body and build strength. I also had a goal to fit in to my pre-pregnancy jeans.
Describe any reservations that you had before we started working together? Why did you have these reservations?
I was scared to see how far I had let myself go. I was scared to see how hard it was going to be to get back in shape.
Explain how we were able to help you with your reservations. What were some specifics we were able to help you with?
Hearing Benjamin speak opened the door to workout again and becoming fit but Austin provided the safety, care, respect and camaraderie to actually make it happen.
Austin met me where I was every session and never made me feel bad if I came in and didn’t have the energy to work out or only worked half assed. Austin really heard me when I said the biggest accomplishment was coming to the gym no matter what and each time he met me where I was he made it safe to move forward.
Austin encouraged and supported me to grow, strengthen and challenge myself
What results have you achieved since starting your program? What are your proudest accomplishments so far?
I am back in my pre-pregnancy jeans!
I look for opportunities to be active, I take the stairs, I park far away, I walk to the bank. I love being challenged and working hard and stretching outside of what is comfortable.
I am proud of how far I have come, how much my body has changed and how much I LOVE being active and working out.
How is your life better now that you have achieved these results?
Every part of my life is better because of Lean Strong Fitness.
I am a more involved parent, I am a more confident person, I am a better business owner and I am more content and present in my life then I have ever been. There is not one part of my life that isn’t better because of the changes I have been able to make with LSF.
I go out more, I say yes more, and I am way more happy then I have been in a very long time.
What do you want to accomplish next?
Austin and I are working on 10 Pull ups…it will happen but man does it hurt trying to get there lol
What do you like best about our program and how would you tell your friends about us and what we do?
I speak so highly about LSF and Austin. I tell everyone how this is so much more than a work out…that finding LSF has given me my life back.
I think LSF is so much more than fitness, its life giving, dream making and one of the best things you can do just for you.
