To think about how far Maggie has come since she started her journey here, a little over 12 months ago, is shocking, amazing, and inspiring all at once.
Maggie’s goals when she first started were simple: get stronger, lose weight, and start hiking. Having never done much strength training in the past, she was admittedly a little nervous to get started. But Maggie was determined to do what it took to achieve her goals in order to live a long and healthy life.
She’s made some sacrifices along the way, cutting back on alcohol and treats, but has found a way to enjoy the holidays, the family gatherings, and the vacations too. It’s all about balance, after all. Maggie’s also been one of the most consistent people I know; along with her husband, Chuck, she’s trained three times per week without missing a single session for nearly a year.
Thanks to her outstanding consistency, Maggie has hit some incredible personal records in deadlifts, squats and pushups (over 20!), including the one she wanted most: a chin up. She was never able to one before in her life, and now she can do four!
Maggie is stronger and she’s leaner, at a bodyweight she hasn’t been in years. Not to mention, she looks AMAZING. It goes to show what a small leap outside of your comfort zone and a little strength training can do 🙂
I’m looking forward to watching what Maggie does in 2017!
What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a program?
My husband and I finished raising our kids and started thinking about how we’d like to spend our time together; knowing we’d always loved the outdoors and wanted to get back to hiking/canoeing/kayaking, we decided to develop and maintain our strength to do so.
What were your 1-2 most important goals when you started?
In the past, I’ve been a runner, spinner and cardio class junkie… which is great for losing weight, but never gave me the strength I needed to endure the activities I enjoyed.
In one to three sentences, can you describe any reservations that you had before we started working together?
I’ve never been comfortable in a gym; I didn’t know what to do with most of the equipment in there and wasn’t looking forward to feeling awkward and insecure around other members.
In one to three sentences, can you explain how I was able to help you with your reservations?
Because semi-private training is offered and I’m only ever working out with three other people (one of them being my husband), I quickly became comfortable with my surroundings.
I also owe a lot to Austin… he’s been great at training me, motivating me, pushing me and congratulating me.
What results have you achieved since starting your program? How do those results make you feel?
I have a 25-pound weight loss and an unknown amount of muscle gain, I feel great!! I’m lifting weight I never thought I’d lift and generally just find things easier to do… I run further & faster than ever, hike for hours on end and manage my giant dog a lot better than I used to.
What do you like best about our program?
The group training because it allows for more attention from my trainer along with an individualized program which supports my personal goals.
Is there anything you want to add about our program that you’d want someone else to know?
The clientele at Lean Strong Fitness is unique; we vary in age, weight and exercise level.
We leave insecurities and ego’s behind and we truly celebrate one another in our achievements… it’s a great place to be!!
