—Note from Steve’s Coach, Ben:
Steve will always have a special place in my heart. You see, when I started Lean Strong Fitness in Feb 2015, he was one of my original 3 clients that came with me and signed up for what at the time was just an idea.
Steve has made tremendous progress since our first day working together.
His results speak for themselves – he’s lost 35+lbs, his mobility has significantly improved with less aches and pains, and the icing on the cake is when he deadlifted a whopping 405lbs, which has been a goal of his for a while (scroll down for the awesome video – he smoked it!).
I’ve also watched him evolve from a “I want to lose weight and feel better” goal, to someone who now has fitness and health part of their identity. It’s not a “thing” he’s doing until he reaches his goal, it’s part of who he is, and he’s made a permanent lifestyle change.
He shows up 3x a week, works hard, goes to yoga for mobility and workouts out at home. He’s changed how he eats, including being part of a CSA where he gets tons of great vegetables. And he’s developed an awesome mindset that will help him stay fit and reach more goals for years to come.
Steve’s made an amazing transformation, and it’s a beautiful thing to see. Awesome work, Steve.
What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a program?
Before I was always been active, but, overweight and, very inflexible. I had been going to a gym for a while and had some success, but not really to my satisfaction.
I decided I need some personal training and was introduced to Ben at another gym.
What was your life like prior to starting at Lean Strong Fitness?
I was athletic while growing up. You know – hockey, baseball, lacrosse, biking, football, but, a little overweight.
As I got older, I went to university, and as in many cases, started ignoring fitness and, just got plain lazy. My weight elevated to about 325 pounds.
At one point I joined Weight Watchers, with some success. In my forties, I started realizing that this was not the life for me, and became more active.
I started cycling during the warmer months, played hockey in the winter, and went to a gym on a regular basis.
That is where I met Ben, and things began to change for the better.
What were your 1-2 most important goals when you started?
Straight up – weight loss, increased flexibility and greater strength.
In one to three sentences, can you describe any reservations that you had before we started working together?
I met Ben at his previous employer and never really had any reservations right from the get go. Ben and I clicked from the beginning.
My only reservation would be when he left his employ to go out on his own, which concerned me and my wife, but, soon that was put to rest.
In one to three sentences, can you explain how your coach was able to help you with your reservations?
If anything, his confidence and ambition. Also, his desire to see clients succeed in their goals is quite reassuring.
What results have you achieved since starting your program? What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
Definitely, my weight loss is most important. I have lost around forty pounds since this all began, making me feel fewer aches and pains associated with weight.
Although I am not the most flexible person in the world, it also has improved.
Finally, I am very proud of my strength gains, which culminated with a recent deadlift of 405 pounds. I never thought I would be able to accomplish that!
How is your life better now that you have achieved these results?
Confidence! I’m not one to ever give up, and that 405 just makes me crave more!
What do you want to accomplish next?
Continue to lift heavy things while trying to become more flexible.
I just recently began attending a yoga class called “Yoga For Stiff Guys” which I really enjoy and am looking forward to beginning the next session very soon.
What do you like best about our program and how would you tell your friends about us and what we do?
What I like about the program is the attention to detail during workouts and your work and diet outside of the gym.
Proper form and execution are important, and that is what I believe get the results that many of Lean Strong’s clients achieve.
It is also what I would tell anyone who is looking for a gym to attend. Lean Strong is a place that gives you a total fitness and lifestyle package.
